Educational checklist

    Family protection checklist

Work through it in any order, at your own pace. Items you have not marked are simply items you have not gone through yet — they are not gaps, failures, or evidence about your coverage.

Your selections stay in this browser. They are never transmitted or stored by SecureNest, and nothing you mark is sent to analytics. Licensed reviews are currently available in North Carolina only.

    Family Protection Checklist

A worksheet for gathering what your household is responsible for, what you already have, and what is still unknown. Nothing you mark here is sent anywhere, and no email is required.

0 of 30 items marked. Items you have not marked are simply items you have not gone through yet.

    People and responsibilities to consider

Start with who is part of the picture. You decide who belongs on this list.

    • A partner, children, a parent, or anyone else whose day-to-day depends on your household.

    • Some responsibilities have an end date. Others do not. Write what you know.

    Income or household support
    • Include regular income, side income, and any income you expect to change.

    • Caregiving, transportation, and household management have real replacement costs.

    Housing responsibilities
    • Rent, or mortgage payment plus taxes and insurance.

    • Your mortgage statement shows the current balance and payoff figure.

    Debts and financial obligations
    • Loans, credit cards, and any co-signed obligations.

    • Co-signed and jointly held obligations often work differently from individual ones.

    Childcare or dependent-care responsibilities
    • Childcare, after-school care, or care for an adult family member.

    • Record your own situation rather than a general assumption.

    Education goals
    • Record what you plan to fund, not a national average.

    • A 529, a savings account, or another earmarked resource.

    Final expenses
    • Write down what has been decided, and what has not.

    • Record only what is genuinely available for this purpose.

    Employer-sponsored life insurance

Access, enrollment, benefit amount, beneficiary information, and plan terms are separate questions.

    • Availability alone does not mean you are enrolled.

    • Your benefits portal or most recent enrollment confirmation shows this.

    • Write the figure exactly as your plan documents state it.

    • Portability and conversion terms differ by plan.

    Individually owned life insurance
    • Individually owned coverage is separate from employer coverage.

    • Use the policy documents rather than memory.

Other resources your household chooses to count
    • You decide what belongs here. These resources are not substitutes for insurance.

    Unknown information to verify
    • An unknown stays unknown until you verify it — do not estimate it.

    • A short, specific question is easier to get answered.

    Beneficiary review reminder
    • Confirm it exists and is current. Do not record names on this sheet.

    • Marriage, separation, birth, adoption, or a death in the family.

    Plan documents and benefits administrator
    • Your benefits portal, your carrier, or your HR records.

    • Plan-specific answers come from your plan, not from this site.

    Optional next steps
    • This checklist is a worksheet, not an assessment of your coverage.

    • An estimate is a starting point for a conversation, not a quote.

    • Household responsibilities and plan terms both change over time.

For anything specific to your plan — benefit amount, plan terms, enrollment status, or beneficiary records — use your current plan documents or contact your benefits administrator. This checklist is an educational organizational tool. It is not a quote, coverage recommendation, suitability determination, or guarantee of coverage.
